Omegle Alternatives in 2026: What Still Works and What's Gone

If you want Omegle alternatives that feel like the original, start with Chitchat, Umingle (where Uhmegle now sends its visitors) or Emerald Chat for text and video. For camera-only chat, Chatroulette and OmeTV are the big names. On a phone, plan on using the browser: Apple now bars random and anonymous chat apps, and few of these sites still have an iPhone app. Azar is the main exception, and it wants a profile photo and a selfie age check.
We checked every site's own pages and app store listings in October 2026. A few names that still top other lists have closed or changed hands, and four sites that look like rivals share one set of terms.
You're reading the blog of OmegleLife, which is a site like Omegle too. Most lists of the best Omegle alternatives come from one of the sites on them, so we gave OmegleLife the same kind of entry as the others, weak spots included. OmegleLife is not affiliated with Omegle.com.

Why Omegle shut down, and what's on omegle.com now
Omegle closed on November 8, 2023, after 14 years. Its founder, Leif K-Brooks, replaced the homepage with a farewell letter saying the stress and cost of fighting misuse, and the attacks on the site that came with it, had become too much: "Operating Omegle is no longer sustainable, financially nor psychologically." The closure followed mediation in a lawsuit from a woman who said Omegle had paired her, at age 11, with a man who abused her. Our post on what happened to Omegle has the full timeline.
The letter is gone now. The omegle.com domain record changed on May 22, 2026, and it lists RC Tech America Inc., a Delaware company, as the registrant. Visitors see a "launching soon" page, and the code behind it includes Google, Apple and Facebook sign-in and an 18+ check. We found no statement from K-Brooks about it, and the new owner hasn't said who runs the site or how it will moderate chats. Treat it like any other new site borrowing a famous name until it does.
Sites like Omegle that keep text and video
The closest copies of the old layout give you a Text button, a Video button, an interests box and one stranger at a time.
Chitchat
Chitchat starts a text chat with one tap and no account. Video asks for a free sign-in, which the site says helps it keep banned users out. You can narrow matches by interests, region and gender, or leave matching random. Unlike Omegle, it lets you add someone from your chat history as a friend and send photos, videos and GIFs.
Chitchat is adults only and pays its way with optional subscriptions instead of ads, though it doesn't list prices on its public pages. It publishes a transparency report every 90 days. By its own count, it blocked more than 40,000 suspected under-18 attempts in the three months to mid-July 2026. If you'd rather type than show your face, and you'd like to keep in touch after a good chat, start here.
Umingle (formerly Uhmegle)
If you used Uhmegle, its homepage now tells you that you "can now use Umingle instead" and links across. Umingle looks almost the same: Text or Video, an optional interests box, no signup, and it runs in any phone browser. Its rules ban minors even with a parent's permission, and you get a Report button during chats. Neither site explains the name change. For the old Omegle flow with interests, it's the nearest copy we found.
Emerald Chat
Emerald Chat asks for an account first, with an email and password or Facebook. After that, random text and video chat, interest matching and group channels cost nothing. Gender, country and language filters sit on paid tiers billed monthly or quarterly, and the terms are blunt about refunds: "All sales are final and no refunds will be issued."
The karma score is Emerald's own twist. Good behavior raises it, and the site says a higher score matches you with other well-behaved users. Moderation is a mix of AI and human moderators. Emerald says it has phone apps, but we couldn't find one on Apple's US App Store, so on an iPhone you'll use the website. Pick it if you don't mind trading some anonymity for accountability, or if you miss group rooms.
OmegleLife
This is our site. OmegleLife is free with no signup: you tick an 18+ box and pick text chat or video chat. If you add interests, the matcher tries someone who shares one for a few seconds, then falls back to anyone waiting. Chats work the way Omegle's did, with messages marked "Stranger:" and "You:" and a Stop button that asks "Really?" before New finds the next person. Our home page covers how OmegleLife works as an Omegle alternative in more detail.
The Report button has six reasons to choose from. OmegleLife doesn't save messages unless someone files a report. A report sends the last 50 messages, plus one frame on video, to moderators, who keep them for 90 days by default. Free video users pass a quick face check that runs in the browser and uploads nothing. Premium, weekly or monthly, adds a country filter, a gender filter based on what people say about themselves (we don't verify it), photo and video sharing, no ads, and a 60-second reconnect with your last stranger if they accept.
It falls short in two places. Chats are one-to-one, so you won't find group rooms, and as a newer site it can be quiet at off-peak hours in some countries.
Video roulette sites
On these sites you turn the camera on and press Next until someone interesting shows up. Text is a side box at most.
Chatroulette
Chatroulette has run since 2009, the same year Omegle launched, and CR Services AG in Zug, Switzerland, operates it now. Its terms say 18+ only. The site calls its chats AI-moderated, and its Android listing mentions human moderators too. The newer twist is a currency called Quids. Going by that listing, you start with 15, each search costs one, you earn more by chatting and by being picked, and packs start at $1.99, so skipping all night costs you. The Android app is on Google Play, but you won't find a Chatroulette app on Apple's US store anymore. It fits people who want to talk face to face better than people who skip every few seconds.
OmeTV
OmeTV is free webcam roulette with no time limits. On the website you pick a country, set your gender or switch to a "Couple" mode, and built-in translation helps across languages. The Android app has drifted toward a social network: you sign up with a profile and collect followers, and a paid VIP Lounge raises your visibility and daily message limits.
In October 2025, Apple and Google removed OmeTV from their Australian stores after the eSafety Commissioner said adults were using it to groom children and its Portugal-based operator hadn't responded to a formal warning. The iPhone app link on OmeTV's homepage now leads to a missing App Store page, and we couldn't find the app in the US, UK, Indian or German stores. The Android app was on Google Play in the US when we checked.
Bazoocam
Bazoocam is a French roulette site with two nice touches. It tries to pair you with people who live nearby, and when the conversation stalls you can play Tetris, Tic Tac Toe or Four in a Row with the stranger. It says more than 40 people moderate it and that taking your clothes off earns a 20-day ban. Bazoocam is 18+. Its site files also contain text for a "sexy chat" promotion and a "Bazoocam Models" sign-up, so adult upselling may turn up around the edges.
Shagle, Chatspin, CamSurf and Chatrandom
Most lists treat Shagle, Chatspin, CamSurf and Chatrandom as separate competitors, yet their terms of service match almost word for word. Shagle and Chatspin even name the same operator, Social Media Ventures LLC. Each set of terms says your activity "may occur through, or be visible across" partner sites "that use the same proprietary chat platform", which means hopping from one to another may land you back in the same crowd.
All four are 18+. The features differ:
- Shagle asks your gender before you start, and its homepage advertises a gender filter and more than 70 countries. Its FAQ still tells you to update Flash, so don't count on the help pages being current.
- Chatspin has a text mode and more than 100 free AR face masks if you'd rather hide your face. Its gender filter needs Plus, which costs $7.99 for the first week and then $29.99 a month, or $19.99 a month with no trial, or $89.94 every six months, according to its pricing page. A free account lets you pick a country.
- CamSurf filters by country or language, lets you type while you're on camera and has an Android app. Its Report Abuse button sits on the other person's video, and banned users can either wait out the ban or use a "Fast Track" service to speed up the review.
- Chatrandom filters by country and lets you choose women, men or couples. It also has a separate gay chat section, and most people can start without signing up.
Apps like Omegle: what's left on iPhone and Android
Apple's App Review Guidelines now say apps used primarily for "Chatroulette-style experiences, random or anonymous chat" don't belong on the App Store, and Apple can remove them without notice. Apple added the "random or anonymous chat" wording in early 2026. We searched Apple's US store in October 2026 and found no app from OmeTV, Chatroulette, Monkey or Emerald Chat. Google Play is looser, and Chatroulette, OmeTV and Monkey all have Android apps there.
Azar
Azar is the big name left on both stores. Seoul-based Hyperconnect makes it, and Match Group, the company behind Tinder, agreed to buy Hyperconnect in 2021. Apple rates the app 18+. Since version 7.0 in April 2026, Azar requires a profile photo and a video selfie age check, though the check depends on your country. The app is free, gem packs on the App Store run from $0.99 to $79.99, and premium settings add extra gender and country filters. If Azar's automated tools spot a rule break, its Video Blur feature pauses the video and prompts you to report. With profiles to browse and followers to collect, it feels closer to a social app than to Omegle. If you want a proper phone app and can live with less anonymity, it's the one to try.
Monkey
Monkey has an Android app for quick video matches, and its site sends iPhone and desktop users to the web version. You sign in with a one-tap social login. Its safety center says Monkey is 18+ and uses AI to flag accounts that look underage, and the company is testing a one-tap exit-and-report button for verified women.
Chitchat, Umingle, OmegleLife and the other web-based sites open in a phone browser with nothing to install.
Closed, renamed or under new owners
- Tinychat closed on December 16, 2024, according to Wikipedia, which cites the shutdown notice on the site. The domain changed hands in 2025, and tinychat.com now runs a different one-to-one video chat built on an embedded chat widget from CooMeet.
- Uhmegle now sends visitors to Umingle.
- Omegle.com has a new registrant and no named operator, and sites with "omegle" in their domain have no link to the original.
If you miss Tinychat's group rooms, Paltalk, the company that owned Tinychat, runs topic-based video, voice and text rooms with apps for iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows. You'll need an account, and its sign-up form asks you to confirm you're over 16, so you may meet 16- and 17-year-olds there.
Which Omegle alternative should you pick?
- For text without a camera, try Chitchat, Umingle, Emerald Chat or OmegleLife. Our comparison of text chat vs video chat covers the privacy trade-offs.
- For camera roulette, start with Chatroulette or Bazoocam, and weigh OmeTV's safety record before you use it.
- For an iPhone app, Azar is the one left, selfie check and all.
- For group rooms, look at Paltalk or Emerald Chat's group channels.
A few habits carry over to any of them. Many browser video chats connect you peer-to-peer, so the other person's device can see your IP address unless the site relays the stream. Keep your full name, school, workplace and social handles out of the chat, and leave when someone pushes you to another app or asks for money. Our safety tips for random video chat go further, and the safety page explains how reporting works on OmegleLife.
Questions people ask about Omegle alternatives
Is Omegle coming back?
Leif K-Brooks closed Omegle in 2023 and hasn't announced a return. A different company, RC Tech America Inc., now holds the omegle.com domain, and the site shows a "launching soon" page with no word on who runs it.
What's the best Omegle alternative with no signup?
Umingle and OmegleLife let you start text or video chat with no account, and Chitchat's text mode does too. Shagle, Chatspin and Bazoocam let you start video without one.
Are Omegle alternatives free?
Most let you chat for free and charge for filters, with the gender filter as the usual paywall. Chatspin puts it behind Plus, Emerald Chat behind a subscription and Azar behind its premium settings. Check the renewal price before you pay: Chatspin's first week costs $7.99, but the plan renews at $29.99 a month.
Are there apps like Omegle for iPhone?
Only a few. Apple's rules bar random and anonymous chat apps, and OmeTV, Chatroulette, Monkey and Emerald Chat weren't on the US App Store when we checked. Azar is still there, and web-based sites like Chitchat, Umingle and OmegleLife work in Safari.
Are sites like Omegle safe?
No random chat site can promise that, OmegleLife included. You can check whether a site is adults only, shows a Report button during the chat, explains what it stores and names who runs it. On any of them, keep personal details to yourself and leave chats that feel off.
If you want to try OmegleLife, it's one click and no account.
