You can chat with strangers in the USA on OmegleLife by text or video, free and with no account, as long as you're 18 or older. Free matches come from all over the world, and when a chat connects, a line in the chat tells you which country the stranger is connecting from, so you'll know when you've landed an American. If you only want people in the US, Premium has a country filter. OmegleLife is not affiliated with Omegle.com.

When to chat with strangers in the USA

The 50 states span six time zones. Honolulu sits five hours behind New York in winter and six in summer.

Time zone Example cities Standard time Daylight time
Eastern New York, Atlanta, Miami UTC-5 UTC-4
Central Chicago, Dallas, Houston UTC-6 UTC-5
Mountain Denver, Salt Lake City UTC-7 UTC-6
Arizona Phoenix, Tucson UTC-7 no change
Pacific Los Angeles, Seattle UTC-8 UTC-7
Alaska Anchorage UTC-9 UTC-8
Hawaii Honolulu UTC-10 no change

Daylight saving time starts at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday in March and ends at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November, according to NIST. In 2026 that's March 8 to November 1. Hawaii and Arizona don't change their clocks, apart from the Navajo Nation in Arizona, which does.

Most people chat once they're off work or out of class. A 9 p.m. chat in New York starts at 6 p.m. in Los Angeles, so evening across the mainland runs from about 7 p.m. Eastern to midnight Pacific, eight hours end to end.

From outside the country, do the conversion first. At 9 p.m. Eastern it's 2 a.m. in London, and in India it's 6:30 a.m. while the US is on daylight time or 7:30 a.m. in winter. The US and the UK change their clocks on different weekends, so for three weeks in March and one week at the end of October, London is only four hours ahead of New York.

Talk to strangers in the USA only

With Premium, open "Match with", choose United States, and the matcher only pairs you with people connecting from the US. You can pick more than one country, and adding Canada or Mexico widens the pool without leaving North America. If nobody from your list is online, you'll see "No one from United States is online right now" with a choice to keep waiting or widen the search, and your filter stays saved.

There's no filter for states or cities. Type the place as an interest instead, like "texas" or "bay area". Matching looks for the exact word, so "nyc" and "new york" count as different interests, and so do "la" and "los angeles". You can add up to 10, so put in both spellings if you're not sure.

In the US, Premium prices show in dollars, on a weekly or monthly plan you can cancel in one click. Checkout lists the payment options for your country, which can include card, PayPal or crypto. Crypto buys a one-time pass that doesn't renew on its own.

American video chat in English, Spanish or both

According to the Census Bureau's 2018-2022 American Community Survey, 78.3% of people aged 5 and older speak only English at home. Among those who speak another language, 61.1% speak Spanish, with Chinese (5.1%) and Tagalog (2.5%) a long way behind. So after English, Spanish is probably the language you'll hear most from American strangers, often mixed into the same sentence.

If you'd like to chat in Spanish, add it as an interest. The exact-word rule applies here too: "spanish", "español" and "espanol" are separate tags, so add the ones you think a match would type.

Regional slang turns up within a few chats. Someone from Georgia might say "y'all" and someone from Boston "wicked", and asking what a word means is an easy way to restart a slow chat. If you're using American chats to work on your English, our post on practicing English with strangers online has a routine you can follow.

If a chat turns into a scam or a threat

Press Report on OmegleLife first. It ends the chat and saves what moderators need to act, and our safety page explains what happens next. Then, depending on what happened:

  • If someone is threatening to share a recording of you, or demanding money or gift cards, file a complaint with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center, its central intake for cyber-enabled crime. Don't pay. Keep screenshots of the threats, the usernames and any payment details they sent.
  • If you saw a child being sexually exploited, report it to the NCMEC CyberTipline or call 1-800-843-5678. If explicit images of you were taken before you turned 18, NCMEC's Take It Down service can help get them off participating platforms, and the image never leaves your device.
  • If intimate images of you were posted without your consent, US law now gives you a way to get them taken down. Since May 19, 2026, the TAKE IT DOWN Act has required covered platforms to remove them, and known identical copies, within 48 hours of a valid request. If a site ignores you, the FTC takes complaints at TakeItDown.ftc.gov. Adults can also use StopNCII.org, which fingerprints the image on your own phone so participating sites can block copies.
  • Call 911 when anyone is in immediate danger.

Our checklist on staying safe on random video chat covers how these scams usually start, which helps you leave before they get going.

Meeting Americans from abroad

On the free plan you can't choose a country, but the chat still tells you when a stranger is connecting from the US, and the time zones above show when they're likely to be awake. Britain and India have their own pages, chat with strangers in the UK and chat with strangers in India, with local hours and local places to get help. If you've never used OmegleLife before, the video chat page covers camera setup and the face check.

Frequently asked questions

Can I chat only with people from the USA?

Yes, with Premium. Open Match with, pick United States, and you'll only be paired with people connecting from the US. On the free plan matches come from any country, but each chat tells you where the stranger is connecting from.

Is there a free American video chat with no signup?

Yes. Video and text chat on OmegleLife are free and need no account. Tick the 18+ box and press Start. Free matches aren't limited to the US, so you'll meet Americans alongside people from everywhere else.

What's the best time to talk to strangers in the USA?

US evenings, roughly 7 p.m. Eastern to midnight Pacific, when most people are off work or out of class. From the UK that's after midnight, and from India it's early morning.

Can I find people from my state or city?

There's no state filter. Add your state or city as an interest instead, like "texas" or "chicago". Matching compares the exact word, so "nyc" and "new york" won't find each other. Add both if you're not sure which one people will type.

How can I tell if a stranger is in the US?

The country shown in the chat comes from the IP address of their connection. Someone on a VPN shows up as wherever their VPN server is, and an American traveling abroad shows up as the country they're in. People can also say whatever they like about where they live.

Where do I report sextortion in the US?

Don't pay, and keep screenshots of the threats, usernames and payment details. File a complaint with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov, and report the chat on OmegleLife. If the person in the images is under 18, report it to the NCMEC CyberTipline as well.

Is Premium charged in US dollars?

Yes. In the US, Premium prices show in dollars on a weekly or monthly plan that you can cancel in one click. Checkout lists the payment options for your country. Paying with crypto buys a one-time pass that doesn't renew.
